Opening a store in Stayner was a great opportunity for us, the community has been generous and we have seen many youth and teenagers grow over the years.
We first opened as a second-hand store with estate goods, giftware, and collectibles which proved to be very enjoyable. However, the moment we expanded into a Gaming shop, that is when the real magic happened!
Opening a Brick and Mortar store is never easy. We began with the name Subjazz Auctions, but since we no longer hosted any auctions, it became quite confusing to our customers and the community. Treasures was born, though we continue as Subjazz Auctions online with stores on eBay, Discogs, and eBid Canada. We needed to separate the two businesses without losing our online presence.
The gaming store has been in operation since 2013. Many of our original players have moved on. But we always welcome new players of ages 8 to infinity. We have after school learn to play days, Dungeons and Dragons two nights a week. Weekly Friday Night Magic and Sunday Magic Casual Commander. Currently, we have over 90 players who attend our various events.
Some of our players have disabilities as well, here at Treasures, we embrace and encourage them to participate in our events. The Pokemon school has also been a great teaching tool for children learning to count and read as well as making friends.
We have also assisted in having Military personal work in the store as part of their reintegration program and more than 6 high school students have acquired volunteer hours in the store.
